Street art is by nature ephemeral. But a coloring book, of all things, is preserving some of the murals in Wynwood by asking the rest of us to add our own interpretations of the work with crayon, pencil or marker.

El artista y empresario Diego Orlandini ha creado un libro para colorear especialmente para adultos. El libro, de 64 páginas, contiene más de 40 versiones en blanco y negro del arte que adorna las paredes de Wyndwood, además de información sobre los artistas que los crearon. Fue publicado en marzo de este año.

With coloring, it’s effortless. You can just open a page and start coloring. You can take your mind off all your problems and it’s very therapeutic.

The Wynwood Coloring Book is inspired by the murals that have made Wynwood famous. It’s the brainchild of writer and social entrepreneur Diego Orlandini, who became interested in the coloring phenomenon when an ex girlfriend sent him a book and suggested he give it a try.

It’s energetic. It’s changing and alive. People are excited to be here. There is lots of good people who want to make this place special. We believe in that and what to contribute to its legacy.

Over time, the murals get painted over by other works, but with the coloring book, they remain alive. In a way, the eight-by-eight-inch coloring book is an ambassador of Wynwood as it makes its way around the world and shows outsiders what’s hidden in a former warehouse district in Miami.

“I really wanted to make a coloring book that was truly representative of Wynwood,” Orlandini shares. “I looked for pieces with various levels of complexity, and I’m proud to say we feature some of the best artists who have decorated Wynwood – past and present.”
